Help!!
This morning i've recived my brand new Riocar 10gb. I'm now at home, trying to upgrade it to v2.00b11. After checking, erasing, programming, flashing... the upgrade program seems to hang just when the player starts up showing the new Rio logo. The program says "Finding Pump" and the player starts. Then, the program says "Selecting pump device", and the blue line doesn't increase. After two minutes the program shows an error message. The payer still shows the Rio logo. If i unplug the player from mains and plug it again, it seems to start but then it says "No hard disk found. Contact ..."
Am I doing something wrong??
I've been listening to music for half an hour with no problem, before update it. I've tried with car2-consumer-v2.00-beta11.upgrade, car2-developer-v2.00-beta11.upgrade even with car2-consumer-v1.02.upgrade. In this case, the player doesn't show the "No hard disk found" message. I've updated the software to 2.0 as the instructions says.
Is my HDD broken? Will i have to send it back for repair? Please don't say yes.. I've not use it more than a half an hour!
Thanks in advance and sorry about my poor english, i'm trying to improve it.
Miguel Pelaz, Madrid.

OK I've tried with car1-developer-v1.02.upgrade and it has been succesfull. It works!! But what does it mean? I won't be able to upgrade? I think this problem can be due to my model, i don't know what is it. I bought it at Kagi (Jeremy Briggs) I thought it was a MK2a, but it has a tape where says "Inspected by xxx, Date : 27/04/01 ". Do i have an old one? How can i know it?
Thank you:
Miguel Pelaz. Madrid.

you have a bad cable.
You should email carsupport@riohome.com
I had the same problem. there's a batch of them with bad cables.

This is a FAQ entry. Don't panic, your disk and cable might be just fine. Please read the FAQ entry by clicking here before panicking.

How are you putting the links into posts and only have them appear as one word, such as click "here". Then you have the word "here" actually being a link to something... I can't figure it out...

Thank you, of course i was "on panic mode" and I wasn't able to find these FAQ entries. (Sorry) I'm now trying to know why i couldn't upgrade. I'll try with a different computer and a different file.
What about knowing my model?
I'm very happy for being a Rio owner, i was very jaleous of you some months ago...
Thanks a lot:

Rez, check the BBS FAQ (not the same FAQ that everyone refers to.) It is called UBBCode.
Basically: (remove the follow spaces)
[ url = http: // link . com ] WORD [ / url ]

Argggh !
I had this very problem (after upgrading to v11), emailed support and came to the conclusion the HDD cable was duff.
A replacement cable is on its way - and as I have already 'opened the bonnet' of the empeg - I may as well change the cable.
Ho hum.
This new empeg is awesome, but it sure has taken up a lot of my free time !

So it could be a solution... With 2.00Beta11, I begun to upload music, and it hanged up after a while. When reboot, it sayed again "No hard disk found". I saw somebody said that for upload hudge quantity of music, it's bether to run a non-beta firmware, so i tried again to downgrade to 1.01. From that time, it has not been possible to upload any firmware, i've tried all of them. Even changing the computer and SO (W2K->Me) and all the COM parameters. Even i've fixed a ground cable to my player. Nothing.
The program begins to "finding pump", and when the blue line reaches about 20%, it changes to "Selecting pump devices" and hangs. In the moment of the change, the blue "link" light besides become off, it was on the rest of the proccess from the player was turned on. No ethernet or USB cable is plugged, only serial (?)
I was confused and one of the first times, i could upgrade it to a MK1 version, when it is a MK2a (see some posts before) so the link light was on too. It has something to do with it?
After that, i could upgrade to 2.00b11 and a battery symbol was always on on the screen. I'm ussing a PC power suply, since the mains Rio sent to me was an american one. I belive my PC power supply is strong enough to supply amperes to 4 o 5 Riocar.
When running on this firmware, it hanged too while it was uploading some music, and that's how I am now. I've tried at least 15 times with different settings.
I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel... Any idea?
Thanks a lot:
Miguel Pelaz. Madrid.

In your particular case, this could possibly be the root of the problem. It might be disk drive cable trouble, but it also might be the power supply. Maybe your scrounged power supply isn't giving the player enough juice for the hard disks to spin up. Please see this FAQ entry for the necessary specifications of the power supply.

First i tried with a cheap 12v 1A power supply, but each time the disk was spun up, it got off and on again. So i connected the PC power supply, it's an 250W with nothing to feed but Riocar. It gives 12.3v. I suppose it is much better than the other i was using...
I forgot to say that first times it hanged, the disk sonunded like scatching, or parking/unparking the heads. Now it doesn't sound bad. The HyperTerminal says:

Hi again
I'm begining to feel boring... I've turned the player on its top and i'va been abled to upgrade it to car2-developer-v2.00-beta11.upgrade . It has booted up well, amd the disk is still scratching, sending things like this:
de0: reset: success
hda: set_geometry_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: set_geometry_intr: error=0x01 { AddrMarkNotFound }, CHS=257/1/1, sector=3461168
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:04 (hda), sector 3461168
hda: recal_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: recal_intr: error=0x01 { AddrMarkNotFound }, LBAsect=16843009, sector=3461176
hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x01 { AddrMarkNotFound }, LBAsect=20404713, sector=3461176
Should I stopp it? It has 15 minutes now...
Thanks:
Miguel again.

Come on, It's no Empeg people's fault, but the ones who built it actually.
In spanish now: Hombre, hay pocos hispanos en el foro! bienvenido pues.
